After a two week speaking tour that started on October 14th and ended at UCLA on the 31st, Director Yamada is scheduled to return to Japan on November 2nd.
This tour essentially followed the same course as last time in July and August, but with the focus shifting to local college and high school students, as Director Yamada relayed the Corps’ message to young people.
Like last time, members of Fukushima Response coordinated this tour, and called upon activist organizations nationwide. As a result, Director Yamada was able to speak at 20 colleges and high schools, a boarding school run by Quakers, and at the Bioneers Conference, an outdoors conference focusing on restoring people and the planet.
At each talk, Director Yamada mainly focused on the “4 Declarations.” Attendees showed a very high level of interest in Director Yamada’s presentation, as members of the audience asked pointed questions, such as “why doesn’t the Japanese government accept SVCF’s offer?”, “what can be done to get rid of the multi-layered sub-contracting system?” and “what kind of organizational structure do you have in mind for the international assessment committee?”
A detailed report of this U.S. tour will be given at the 21st Diet meeting.
